PSUAC baseball championship play coming to DuBois

The Penn State University Athletic Association baseball championships are set to begin this Sunday, May 5, at Shower’s Filed in DuBois. Penn State DuBois will face Penn State Brandywine at 12:30 p.m. in the second round of the double-elimination tournament.

PSUAC softball championships slated for May 5 in DuBois

The Penn State DuBois softball team will begin Penn State Athletics Conference championship play at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 5, against Penn State Hazleton. Started just three years ago, this is the first time the DuBois team has made the conference playoffs.

Penn State DuBois wildlife technology students help to reclaim PA forests

A group of wildlife technology students at Penn State DuBois have contributed to reclaiming some area mine land while gaining valuable, real-world lessons. Lecturer in Wildlife Technology Carrie O’Brien took two sections of her class to a site in the Moshannon State Forest in Elk County in late April to help plant trees in a large-scale effort to reforest a 35-acre portion of public ground.

Penn State DuBois grad to launch career with Lockheed Martin

A 2019 graduate of the Penn State DuBois Information Sciences and Technology (IST) program is launching his career with the nation’s leading producer of military technology in areas of aeronautics, maritime systems, space exploration and more. CJ Seitz, of Treasure Lake, landed a position as a software engineering associate with Lockheed Martin months before his graduation.

Penn State DuBois commencement planned for May 3

Spring commencement ceremonies at Penn State DuBois are planned for 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the Multipurpose Building Gymnasium. The event is open to all members of the public, friends and family of graduates, and all individuals who would like to celebrate the class of 2019. Local philanthropist, businesswoman and community leader Joyce Fairman will offer the commencement address.

Summer youth programs set for June at Penn State DuBois

Penn State DuBois is offering fun and educational classes in June for students going into grades 5–12. There are four Academy programs offered during the weeks of June 17 and 24. These programs include topics in crime, law, wildlife, wildlife technology, forensic science, and healthcare.

‘Sleepout’ event at Penn State DuBois supports fight against homelessness

A group of six Penn State DuBois students recently completed a social change project, “Sleepout for Homelessness,” aimed at raising awareness of the U.S. homelessness epidemic by spending a night outside and getting a glimpse into what people who are homeless experience every day. The students set up for the evening in front of campus, along State Route 255, where they constructed shelters out of cardboard boxes and tarps; they also collection donations for local shelters.

Penn State DuBois library assistant Barb Kopshina will present an informational program on genealogy research in conjunction with the DuBois Historical Society. This event is free and open to the public. The program is planned for 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the DuBois Historical Society, 30 West Long Ave., in DuBois.
