An unprecedented gift to the Open Doors Scholarship Program at Penn State DuBois by Robert Umbaugh has generated $900,000 in scholarship endowment funding for students.
A project scheduled to begin on July 25 will rejuvenate the area around the DuBois Monument, with landscape improvements, lighting and a new fence. Situated above the Penn State DuBois campus on what is referred to as Monument Hill, the granite statue marks the grave site of John DuBois, who founded the town of DuBois, and is topped by a figure of a woman said to represent hope.
Area golfers are invited to sign up a team for the Ninth Annual Penn State DuBois Golf Benefit, hosted by the DuBois Educational Foundation. This four-person scramble is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21, at the Treasure Lake Silver Course. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided prior to a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
The Jim and Jean Cretti Open Doors Scholarship has been established at Penn State DuBois in honor of the late couple. Taking advantage of an unprecedented 2:1 matching opportunity, the Crettis’ son, Jim Jr., created the scholarship in his parents’ names. Jim Jr. is a Penn State alumni and an engineering manager at Northrop Grumman in the Airborne C4ISR Systems Division in Baltimore, Maryland.
Two former Penn State DuBois basketball players are on their way to Los Angeles to play for millions this week. Tristan Pierce and Sam Roselli both joined the DuBois Dream after graduation, where they've had the opportunity to continue playing the sport they love on a professional, minor league level. The Dream has been selected to participate in ESPN's "The Basketball Tournament" (TBT) running this weekend in Los Angeles, California.
Nearly 200 Penn State DuBois students were named to the Dean's List for the spring 2018 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.5 or higher grade-point average.

For the second time during his student career in the Penn State DuBois Engineering program, Kyle Bear has had a research article published in a top industry magazine. Having heard of Bear's research in powder metal production processes, editors from "Thermal Processing" reached out to Bear and asked if he could pen an article for them with updates on his progress. His initial article appeared in the American Welding Society's Welding Journal in May of 2017.
