The Penn State DuBois volleyball team has earned its first-ever bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s national tournament. DuBois kicks off its championship play with games at 11:30 a.m. on both Nov. 8 and 9 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Penn State DuBois Library, in conjunction with faculty in the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) program will host “Ask a Funeral Director” at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Room 204 of the DEF Building. This event is free and open to the public. The featured speaker will be Jeff Baronick, director of Baronick Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc. in DuBois, Pennsylvania.
Former Penn State DuBois chancellor Anita McDonald has established The Anita D. McDonald Open Doors Scholarship at Penn State DuBois. Taking advantage of the unprecedented 2:1 matching opportunity that was available before June 30, 2018, McDonald pledged $30,000 earlier this year to create the scholarship. It will be matched with $60,000 from Penn State, creating a $90,000 endowment.
Students in two distinct classes at Penn State DuBois have teamed up to help others in need with a special service project. “Purses with a Purpose” is aimed at helping women who are homeless or in need, by providing purses and bags for their use, as well as a variety of hygiene and comfort items included in the purses.
All members of the community are invited to take part in a rededication and light-up ceremony for the John DuBois Monument at Penn State DuBois. A reception is planned for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, in Room 203 of the DEF Building.
This #GivingTuesday, Penn State DuBois will celebrate by advancing the Penn State DuBois Future Fund. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
For the third consecutive year, DuBois Area High School has taken the top spot in the BEST Robotics Competition at Penn State DuBois, the first round of a national robotics competition for middle and high school students. Rounding out the top three in the overall BEST awards are Redbank Valley High School in second and Cranberry Area School District in third.
The family of former DuBois Educational Foundation board member, Forrest Brubaker, has established an Open Doors scholarship in his memory and in honor of his wife, Norma. The family has pledged $30,000 to establish the Forrest and Norma Brubaker Open Doors Scholarship.
A craft painting night sponsored by the Penn State DuBois Alumni Society is open to the public. Artist Kelly Porada of Kelly’s Arts and Crafts in Punxsutawney will instruct the class on how to create a Penn State-themed craft painting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, in Room 203 of the DEF Building at Penn State DuBois.
The Delta Mu Sigma Honor Society at Penn State DuBois has inducted new members for the Fall 2018 semester. In order to qualify for membership students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above, and be involved in campus or community service.
