Weather-related Closings During COVID
Please see this Penn State News article for further clarifications regarding weather-related closings and hybrid instruction.
If weather conditions are very serious, a media announcements will be made that classes for the day (including evening classes) and all scheduled events will be canceled. All administrative offices will be closed as well.
If only one day of classes is missed during a semester due to a campus closing, instructors are asked to make up missed classes at their discretion, making their own arrangements with their students. If classes or rooms need to be scheduled for makeup purposes, please notify the registrar.
If the campus cancels more than one day during the semester, the campus administration will determine how to make up those missed classes.
Communication of Closings
The campus will use a number of methods to announce a campus closing, delay, or early dismissal. These include: PSUAlert text messages, emails, the campus website, and radio and TV announcements.
WPSU-FM is an official information source for Penn State closings and cancellations. Their page shows up-to-the-minute closing and delay reports for Penn State DuBois, Penn State Altoona, and Penn State's University Park campus, as well as many local area school districts. Also on this page, you will find a link to PENNDOT's Interstate Highway Conditions map.
The campus is closed only in severe weather. If it becomes necessary to change school operating schedules due to weather or other conditions, we will utilize local media to notify staff, faculty and students. Please bear in mind that it may not always be possible to get word out as rapidly as we might like, but the announcement to cancel classes or to delay the start of classes will be made approximately at 5:00 am.
Announcements on campus closings/delays will be made on the stations listed under Radio and TV Stations.
