Scott joins Penn State DuBois softball team

Lizzy Scott of West Branch has decided to continue her academic and scholastic softball career at Penn State DuBois. Arguably one of the most consistent pitchers in the area, Scott never allowed more than three earned runs in a game last spring.

DuBois men's basketball upends nationally ranked Penn State Greater Allegheny

Penn State DuBois remained unbeaten at home after a 80-74 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny who was also unbeaten in PSUAC play. DuBois’ shooting was key to the victory connecting on 50 percent from three and netting 22 free throws. DuBois got off to a hot start making 4 of its first 5 shots leading to an early 9-0 lead, DuBois would hold Greater Allegheny scoreless until a 3 point shot fell at the 16:46 mark.

Penn State DuBois women's basketball team collects seventh win

The Penn State DuBois women’s basketball team picked up their seventh win of the season by dropping Penn State Greater Allegheny by the score of 74-46. The win improved the DuBois squad’s record to (3-1) in the PSUAC conference and (7-2) overall. Coming into the game, the DuBois Lady Lions were ranked 11th in the USCAA Division II national rankings.

The Penn State DuBois Women’s basketball team returned from the Thanksgiving holidays and picked up another home win over Penn Highlands CC by the score of 85-54. The PSUD squad improved to (4-1) with the win heading into PSUAC Conference play this weekend.

Men's Basketball: Powerful Bench Leads to Conference Opener Road Win

Penn State DuBois opened PSUAC play with a 80-64 win at Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday night. PSUD started off slow missing their first two shots as New Ken was able to connect on their first two 3 point attempts taking an early 6-0 lead moments into the game. PSUD was able to calm down, execute on offense and take the lead by the 15:00 minute mark. Both sides would struggle for the rest of the first half shooting the ball. (DuBois 18-40 45% and New Ken 15-36 41.7%) PSUD closed the half on a small run giving them a 6 point cushion going into half 47-41.

Workshops showcase educational, career opportunities for area students

Faculty and staff members at Penn State DuBois hosted a collection of workshops on Thursday, Nov. 16, to help introduce area middle and high school students to some of the options they'll have in both higher education and in their careers. The Gifted Workshop series was aimed specifically at students in gifted or advanced curriculums, and welcomed more than 30 students in grades seven through 12 from DuBois, Brockway, and Redbank Valley school districts.

Make reservations for Breakfast with Santa

Santa and Mrs. Claus will once again make a stop at Penn State DuBois this Christmas season for the 23rd annual Breakfast with Santa. Time slots for breakfast will be available between 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Dec. 9 in the Hiller Building Student Union on campus. The cost is $4 per person, which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Students Deliver Holiday Care Packages to Those in Need

Members of the Penn State DuBois Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) Club have made efforts to make the holidays brighter for some area residents. The club members packed up and delivered care packages on Thursday to four organizations that serve people in need, including people who are homeless, those going through a crisis, and youth being counseled at a residential youth center. Those organizations are Haven House in DuBois, Capsea in Ridgway, Pentz Run in DuBois, and Crossroads in DuBois and Punxsutawney.

From addiction to victory: An inspirational 'run' to Athlete of the Year

This is Maine's first year ever running cross country and she succeeded in placing in at least the top three of every race.In a former life, Rebecca was addicted to heroin. She has now been clean for nearly five years. Prior to sobriety, she spent her young adulthood traveling across the country by hitchhiking and train-hopping. Eventually, the demons of addiction overwhelmed her enough that she found herself returning home.
