The Penn State DuBois Women's Volleyball team opened their season with a 3-0 win against Penn Highlands Community College on Saturday. The first of two games went down to the wire, but the Lady Lions pulled off both wins by scores of 26-24 and 27-25. In the third game, the Lady Lions settled in and won convincingly by a score of 25-12.
For the fourth year in a row, a national robotics competition for middle and high school students is taking place at Penn State DuBois. An official kickoff for the 2017 BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics Competition took place in the student union Sept. 9. The competition is set for Oct. 20-21 in the campus gymnasium.
Penn State DuBois' campus police officer John Licatovich is sporting a new haircut for a good cause. Licatovich, with other officers from departments around the area, participated in "Buzz for Brock" this week at the DuBois City Park.
Penn State DuBois Outreach is offering two technical workshops that aid those employed in the manufacturing industry in the area. The Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is a class designed to provide an in-depth view of the AIAG Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) 4th Edition. The students will discuss the different topics of a PPAP such as: significant production run, PPAP requirements, customer notification, submission requirements, and part submissions status.
A total of 146 new freshmen, plus their faculty and staff group leaders, reached out to communities throughout the region Aug. 18 for Penn State DuBois Outreach Day. Each year, as part of New Student Orientation, new students volunteer at various charitable and community oriented organizations in the area, giving students a look at the importance of service, while lending a hand to local charities.
Chancellor M. Scott McBride, on behalf of all campus faculty and staff, welcomed new freshmen to Penn State DuBois during Convocation ceremonies on Thursday in the campus gymnasium, opening up the two-day New Student Orientation.

The Penn State DuBois Alumni Society will host "A Night in the Wilds" from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette, Pennsylvania. All members of the public are invited to attend and take the opportunity to become familiar with what the center has to offer.
For Penn State DuBois alumna and small business owner Kristy Hanes, a rewarding career is all about the details. That is, the number of cars she details at her business, Kristy's Krystal Klean Kars, in the community of Kersey, in Elk County. An Elk County native, she launched the business while still a student, and after graduating with her bachelor's degree in business management and marketing from Penn State DuBois this spring, dove into her work full-time.
Penn State DuBois invites anyone who loves to draw or those who would like to learn how to draw to take part in its Aspiring Artist Series of classes. Professional artist Christion Iraca will provide individualized instruction and guidance to students who want to learn more about the techniques that help create realistic portraits.
