Penn State announces spring 2017 commencement events and speakers

This spring Penn State expects to award 13,894 diplomas to students University-wide who are completing 226 associate, 11,435 baccalaureate, 1,590 master’s, 262 law, 244 doctoral and 137 medical degrees. Following is a compilation of commencement ceremonies and speaker information for Penn State’s 24 locations.

Honors convocation recognizes students, faculty, staff

The 78th annual Delta Mu Sigma Honors Convocation at Penn State DuBois recognized outstanding students, faculty and staff members on Friday night in the campus' Hiller Auditorium. Awards at the Honors Convocation recognize students for a wide range of accomplishments, from academic excellence, to overcoming hardships to succeed. Members of the staff and faculty were celebrated for their commitment to supporting students and for their service to the campus and community. The event is organized each year by members of the Delta Mu Sigma Honors Society.
High Tunnel Donation

Students make donation to community garden

A group of Penn State DuBois students has made a contribution to help support a local community garden through a service project. Students Austin Miller, Coby Gardener, Cortney Hedlund, Kristy Hanes and Ryan Lingle gathered supplies and built a mini high tunnel that they donated to the DuBois Community Garden, located off of Liberty Boulevard. The domed, wood-framed structure, covered in clear plastic, is essentially a small green house that will protect plants from the elements and aid growth.

Sending a 'We Are!' and thank you to these Penn Staters

This week, we recognize six people and members of staff who go above and beyond what's asked of them in their work at the University. We're sending a "We Are!" to Penn Staters with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Penn State Harrisburg, Penn State DuBois and Penn State Hazleton.

Palumbo Charitable Trust grows scholarship fund

The A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust has donated an additional $30,000 to a scholarship fund that will help students attain an education at Penn State DuBois. The fund, The Palumbo Scholarship at Penn State DuBois, was established in 2008 with a $25,000 gift from the Palumbo Charitable Trust. To date, the trust has gifted more than $300,000 to campus scholarship funds. In 2016-17 alone the fund provided scholarships for 22 individual students.

Community Invited to DuBois Campus Earth Day Celebration

All members of the community are welcome to celebrate Earth Day at Penn State DuBois while learning more about ways they can help sustain their environment. The Fourth Annual Penn State DuBois Earth Day Celebration is planned for 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, in the campus gymnasium. All activities are free and open to everyone.
