Beginner Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing
Explore the technical challenges and discovery of designing and creating your own jewelry. In this class, designed for beginners, students will learn basic metalsmithing techniques such as fabrication, piercework, surface treatment, annealing, and cold joining. No prior metalsmithing or art knowledge is necessary. Experienced students are also welcome. Students will be required to purchase or bring a small tool kit. A link to purchase a kit will be provided upon registration (approx. $70.) for those without tools. Basic materials will be provided and are included in the cost of the class. Participants will create two-three pieces of finished jewelry. Potential projects include pendants, brooches, or rings.

Advanced Jewelry Making and Metalsmithing
You enjoyed our beginner class or have been doing metalsmithing on your own and are ready to learn more advanced skills. This class is designed for those who are no longer beginners and want to build their skills. In this class, students will learn advanced jewelry fabrication and soldering techniques, stone setting, and torch enameling. Knowledge of jewelry saw and basic metalsmithing techniques a must. Information and a link to purchase a small tool kit will be provided upon registration (approx. $70) for those without the required tools. Basic materials will be provided and are included in the cost of the class. At this stage, students may purchase their own materials if they wish.

Our Instructor: Bobbi Shaffer Ingram is a silversmith and jewelry maker with studios in DuBois and Amarillo, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree from Penn State and a Master of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metals from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. For 17 years, Bobbie has been creating art jewelry as well as clean and classic wearable designs. Her jewelry line can be described as simple, earthy, timeless designs that promise endless wearability. Passionate about her work, Bobbie is also dedicated to teaching others the art of metalsmithing.
Cancellations and refunds
Payment is due upon registration. Students may request a registration cancellation through the start date of the course. A $25 cancellation fee will apply. No refunds will be given for withdrawal requests after the course start date. The University reserves the right to cancel course selections. If the course is cancelled, the student will be issued a full refund.
