Course Overview and Objectives

The course focuses on effective strategies for improved SAT reading, math, and English testing performance. Learners will practice essential math concepts, complete in-class reading exercises, edit practice passages, participate in oral discussions, and learn close-reading techniques that will equip them with the tools they need to succeed on the SAT. Two diagnostic tests are included to gauge learners' progress. Student objectives include:

  • Mastering all necessary content, timing, and test-taking strategies
  • Reviewing essential math computations and formulas
  • Learning top 100+ essential vocabulary words
  • Completing four full-length practices exams
  • Improving overall study habits
  • Identifying and reflecting on strengths and areas of development

Learners should be prepared to provide their PSAT scores at the time of registration, complete two diagnostic tests the Saturdays after weeks three and six, complete homework exercises, and attend every session willing to participate in oral discussions.

Meet the Instructor

Mr. Anthony is a Premier ACT + SAT Prep Instructor. In addition to teaching the SAT Strategy course, Anthony is the director and co-founder of an educational service company where he created a proprietary online learning platform and published materials related to key strategies and advanced practice problems for SAT prep. He taught chemistry, biology, mathematics and business literacy to high school students and was awarded National Teacher of the Week.

Preparing for the Digital SAT – Course Overview

Starting in spring 2024, all students will take the full SAT Suite of Assessments digitally. Penn State Berks is ready to equip students for the new testing experience.

What to Expect on the Digital SAT – Webinar by College Board

This course focuses on effective strategies to prepare for the digital SAT. The SAT is composed of two sections, reading and writing and math, with each section broken down into two modules:

Component

Time Allotted (minutes)

Number of Questions

Reading and Writing

64 (two 32-minute modules)

54

Math

70 (two 35-minute modules)

44

Total

134

98

The digital SAT utilizes adaptive testing in which test questions presented are based on answers to previous test questions. The test changes, or adapts, as the student answers more and more questions. The digital testing application, Bluebook™, is a custom-built app for the digital SAT that students use to take the digital SAT. Answer formatting may be multiple choice or fill in the blank.

During the test, you'll have access to a set of tools:

  • On math questions, you’ll find a reference sheet and a calculator. You can also bring your own calculator (view the list of approved calculators).
  • On reading and writing questions, use the annotation tool to highlight text or leave yourself a note.
  • On multiple-choice questions, if you think an answer option is wrong, you can cross it out.
  • You can mark for review any questions you want to come back to later.
  • Zoom in and out using keyboard shortcuts on laptops or by pinching on tablets.

Testing Devices

You can take the digital SAT on a wide range of devices, including your own laptop (Windows or MacOS), iPad, Windows tablet, or school-managed Chromebook. Bluebook must be downloaded onto your device before the test day. Then, one to five days before your test, you'll complete a quick exam setup. The application will confirm that your device meets all requirements, then it will download your test and generate your admission ticket.

Your device must also be able to connect to Wi-Fi and be fully charged—it will need to stay on for roughly three hours. All other applications and programs must be closed during test day.

Visit the Bluebook website to download the app and for installation instructions.

Cancellations and refunds

Payment is due upon registration.  Cancelation requests must be in writing to [email protected].  A $50 cancellation fee may apply. No refunds will be given for withdrawal requests after the course start date. The University
reserves the right to cancel a course selection if the minimum  enrollment is not met. If the course is cancelled, the student will be issued a full refund.
