Penn State DuBois cross-country runner Juliann Boddorf claimed the title of Conference Champion at the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference Championship, held Oct. 17 on the golf course at Penn State's University Park campus.
For the second year in a row, DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) has taken first place in the BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) robotics competition held Oct. 24 in the campus gymnasium at Penn State DuBois. Rounding out the top three schools were DuBois Area School District in second place and the Wider School in third place. All three schools will advance to the Northern Plains BEST Regional Championships to be held Dec. 3-5 at North Dakota State University. BEST is a national robotics competition for middle and high school students.
The Penn State DuBois baseball team made a strong showing in six appearances during its fall ball season, ending with a 3-3 record. This is the first time Penn State DuBois has fielded a baseball team since the early 1990s when the program was cut due to budgetary reasons.
Some area elementary school students got a lesson in health and safety Oct. 15 from students in the Penn State DuBois Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. The Penn State students presented the Backpack Awareness Program to around 400 students at Juniata Elementary School in the DuBois Area School District.
Four individuals were honored for their career accomplishments, as well as their steadfast support of Penn State DuBois, at the campus' annual Alumni Awards Banquet Oct. 15 at the DuBois Country Club.
Two Lady Lion runners from Penn State DuBois competed in the third annual Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6k in Pittsburgh on Oct. 4. Representing Penn State DuBois in the race were runners Juliann Boddorf and Carley Boice. The unique 4.1-mile race pays homage to Pittsburgh Penguins great Mario Lemieux while helping to raise money for the Mario Lemieux and Pittsburgh Penguins foundations.
More than 40 Penn State DuBois men wore high heels for the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event Sept. 30. The men's march is meant to raise awareness of the battle against rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
Around 50 middle school and high school students from six area school districts, as well as representatives from area industry, took part in Manufacturing Day at Penn State DuBois Oct. 2. All guests had the opportunity to take part in a product design exercise using computer drafting tools, received tours of campus engineering labs and production labs, and learned more about engineering degree programs offered at Penn State DuBois.
Under the beating wings of eight monarch butterflies released from the campus monarch nursery, Penn State DuBois officially turned 80 years old on Friday, Sept. 18. The campus community celebrated the milestone with a birthday party and picnic on the campus lawn. The occasion was especially marked by the butterfly release, one monarch for each decade.
Penn State DuBois wildlife technology student Donna Morello, of Brookville, has received a $500 gift card to the Penn State Bookstore as the winner of the Blue and White Society Bookstore Sweepstakes. Blue and White society members who renewed their membership this year were automatically entered in the drawing. Three $500 gift cards were awarded University-wide.
