A total of 10 Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students from Penn State DuBois, as well as two of their faculty members from the OTA program attended the American Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) 2016 Hill Day in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 19. More than 650 politically active occupational therapy practitioners and occupational therapy students from across the United States descended on Capitol Hill to make their voices heard during the profession's annual advocacy event.
A group of young people interested in careers focused on wildlife conservation or research visited Penn State DuBois on Monday to learn about educational opportunities that could interest them. A total of 19 high school age students visited as members of the Wildlife Leadership Academy, based in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and they learned more about the Penn State DuBois Wildlife Technology degree program during their visit.
The first round of a nation-wide robotics competition for middle and high school students will take place at Penn State DuBois in October. BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) got underway on Saturday (Sept. 10) with the official Kickoff Day, as teams assembled on campus to gather information and the supplies they'll need to build their robot.
Attorney David Bish, of DuBois, has been named an instructor in the Administration of Justice program at Penn State DuBois. He has begun teaching as the fall semester gets underway.
Penn State DuBois men's basketball head coach Dylan Howard has announced the 2016 recruiting class. The team will include 13 new players to preseason this fall. The new faces will join nine returners from last season’s team that went 15-10 overall and earned the No. 5 seed in the PSUAC playoffs.
First-year students beginning their career in higher education at Penn State DuBois this semester kicked off the academic year with an enormous service project during New Student Orientation. The students volunteered with Stop Hunger Now, an organization that supplies nutritional meals to people around the globe, helping to sustain underprivileged people wherever there is a need.
Clearfield Bank & Trust Company has made an additional gift of $5,000 to the Clearfield Bank & Trust Company Scholarship at Penn State DuBois. The bank has pledged to make annual contributions to the fund, which will be distributed in its entirety to qualifying students each year.
Nearly 80 individuals officially became alumni of Penn State University during Penn State DuBois commencement ceremonies on Friday night at the DuBois Country Club. The commencement address was offered by Congressman Glenn Thompson.
Efforts to sustain and increase wildlife species at an area lake are picking up this spring with a great deal of help from students in the Penn State DuBois wildlife technology program. The students have partnered with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Jefferson County Conservation District to provide habitat development at Kyle Lake, a man-made body of water located in Washington Township, Jefferson County.
Phoenix Sintered Metals of Brockway, Pennsylvania, has contributed support to youth programs at Penn State DuBois through a Pennsylvania state tax credit program. The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, and allows businesses to contribute to specified educational institutions in lieu of regular state tax payments. Specifically, EITC requires that businesses support scholarship funds for youth.
