Some Penn State DuBois students have given area families something extra to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) students took on a project through the HDFS Club to distribute Thanksgiving care packages to homeless shelters throughout the region.
A group of young musicians rallied together For the Kids at one local community's center for the arts. Music Fest was held at the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) on Saturday, Nov. 19. The event featured popular local bands Twin Reverb and Mutual Friends, as well as other entertainers including Penn State DuBois students. It was organized by Penn State DuBois THON Committee member Alaina Shaffer.
In years past, weather events caused a delay in the start of activities and classes at University Park campus. When a delay is announced at University Park, employees who perform nonessential services are to report at the announced time. Classes and activities that begin before the announced time are canceled. Inclement weather is likely any time now through March. When it does strike, the Penn State community should check WPSU-FM and Penn State Live -- the official sources for weather-related delay or cancellation advisories at Penn State's University Park campus. In addition, advisories will be sent directly to cell phones via PSUTXT.
A spaghetti dinner to benefit THON at Penn State DuBois, originally scheduled for Dec. 6 has been postponed due to unexpected delays in a campus renovation project. The dinner is now planned for 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the Student Union at Penn State DuBois.
Tristan Pierce (Lancaster/Lancaster, Ohio) scored 32 points on 11-20 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists to help Penn State DuBois open Penn State University Athletic Conference play with a 97-82 home win over Penn State New Kensington on Nov. 29.
Members of Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited recently made their annual $3,000 contribution to the organization's scholarship fund at Penn State DuBois. Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited representatives Beth Giese and Marcia Newell also had the chance to meet with scholarship recipients Chelby Sherwood and Alec Baker. Established in 2001, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited Scholarship provides financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled in the Wildlife Technology program at Penn State DuBois.
Fall commencement ceremonies were held in Hiller Auditorium at Penn State DuBois Thursday evening. The commencement address was offered by Instructor in Mathematics John Tolle. Named the 2016 DuBois Educational Foundation Educator of the Year, Tolle began teaching at Penn State DuBois in 2008 after serving for 12 years as lecturer of mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Penn State DuBois will offer two unique instructional courses in golf this spring for those looking to either take up the sport for the first time or for current golfers looking to improve their game.
