Engineering student's research garners international attention

For the second time during his student career in the Penn State DuBois Engineering program, Kyle Bear has had a research article published in a top industry magazine. Having heard of Bear's research in powder metal production processes, editors from "Thermal Processing" reached out to Bear and asked if he could pen an article for them with updates on his progress. His initial article appeared in the American Welding Society's Welding Journal in May of 2017.

Students participate in inaugural Flight 93 Memorial Alternative Break

This spring, Penn State DuBois was the first university to participate in the inaugural Alternative Break Service Program at Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Although this is the first time the memorial has hosted an alternative break program, students in the Penn State DuBois Wildlife Technology program have participated in work at the site for five years, reclaiming areas that are former strip mines.

Sell-Kohlhepp Open Doors Scholarship established at Penn State DuBois

Dan and Donna Kohlhepp have made a $60,000 gift to establish the Sell-Kohlhepp Open Doors Scholarship, honoring both the Kohlhepp family, as well as Donna's family, the Sells. The Open Doors Scholarship Program has generated nearly $2 million for student scholarships at Penn State DuBois so far. This unprecedented giving opportunity runs in its current form through June 30, offering the 2:1 match to donors who make a minimum $30,000 pledge, payable over five years.

Retired professor releases second children's book

Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus Richard Kopley new book, "Kenny and the Blue Sky," will be released on June 15. "Blue Sky" follows Kenny, a young boy who dreams of being able to reach, touch and be in the sky. Through the wonder of a child's view, the sky lowers itself one afternoon, allowing Kenny and his family and friends to experience the sky as no one else ever has.

Starr Hill Winery makes $1,000 donation to Penn State DuBois student programs

Starr Hill Winery of Curwensville recently made a $1,000 donation to support student programs at Penn State DuBois. The winery offers a "Vintner for a Day" package each year at the campus' Lion Wine and Cheese fundraising auction. The winning bidder then gets the chance to produce and bottle their own wine at the winery with a portion of sales of that wine coming back to campus. This donation is a portion of the proceeds from last year's wine named "DuBois Double Play."

Associate Professor of Mathematics and Geoscience Neyda Abreu was sought out by a national publication recently for her expertise on the solar system. An article published by Newsweek on May 9, penned by New York City-based science journalist Meghan Bartels, features quotes and other information provided by Abreu, who is an outside expert not connected with the research.
