A national robotics competition for middle and high school students got underway at Penn State DuBois on Sept. 7. An official kickoff event for BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics took place on campus, with nine schools and nearly 200 students participating.
Longtime campus supporter Charles Snapp has made a $50,000 gift in support of the North Central PA LaunchBox Powered by Penn State DuBois. This gift will double thanks to a matching program offered by Penn State, resulting in the $100,000 Charles E. Snapp LaunchBox Endowment.
Penn State DuBois Softball coaching staff and players will host a softball clinic at Heindl Field in DuBois this fall. It is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 20. Parents and children are asked to arrive at noon in order to complete registration.
The 10th annual Penn State DuBois Golf Benefit is planned for Sept. 20 at the DuBois Country Club. There is still time to sign up teams for the four-person scramble. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
“Positioning Your Business and Brand for Success in a Competitive Market” will be hosted by the North Central PA Launchbox and Ben Franklin Technology Partners via an online seminar through LaunchLINK. It is planned for 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 in Room 256 of the Swift Building at Penn State DuBois.
Penn State DuBois officially opened the 2019-20 academic year on Aug. 22 with the campus Convocation Ceremony and New Student Orientation. New students and their families were welcomed by Chancellor M. Scott McBride and other campus leaders during the ceremony in the campus gymnasium, where they also were introduced to faculty and staff.
Penn State students who commute to campus or live in on-campus apartments have a convenient option for grabbing a meal or a snack: the Commuter Meal Plan. The plan, which is charged to the student account, has recently been expanded to three levels and is now offered at additional Penn State locations.
This Fall Penn State DuBois Continuing and Community Education will offer both a 10-week introductory sign language course, as well a 6-week intermediate class for those who would like to increase their sign language skills or have specific needs for their job. They are also both Act 48 approved for continuing education credits for educators.
Tom Calliari and the Penn State DuBois baseball team remain committed to success in the coming year, on the heels of a second consecutive United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series win.
Three individuals will be honored for their accomplishments, as well as their dedication to Penn State DuBois, at the annual Benefit Celebration on Oct. 12. The Alumni Society will present their Alumni Awards during the celebration to Richard Ogden, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award; Anita McDonald, recipient of the Distinguished Ambassador Award; and Craig Hicks, recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award.
