Penn State DuBois wrestlers claim NCWA Mid-East title

The Penn State DuBois wrestlers continued their successful roll through the postseason, claiming the NCWA Mid-East Qualifier team championship, hosted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) on Saturday afternoon. Leading the way for Coach Dave Hoare’s wrestlers were champions Brett Himes (125), Garrett Brown (133), Ty Haines (149) and Bryce Hanley (285).

Guest speaker introduces ideas for small business development

Benjamin Legum, an assistant professor and applied research specialist from the Clarion University Center for Applied Research and Intellectual Property Development (CARIPD), spoke at Penn State DuBois Feb. 26 about the services the CARIPD has to offer. The center's mission is to support and assist individual entrepreneurs, startup companies and established companies, and aid them in growth and development.

Penn State DuBois THON team shatters record, makes top 10

As this year's Penn State DuBois THON dancers recover from spending the weekend on their feet "For the Kids," they're able to reflect on an emotional milestone year for the campus. This year the DuBois THON committee shattered its fundraising record, and made it on the top 10 list of Penn State campuses contributing to THON's total.

Business owner outlines do's and don'ts for aspiring entrepreneurs

A small business owner with three decades of experience in his field visited Penn State DuBois business students recently to impart some real-world lessons on what it takes to successfully operate a business. John McCreary is the owner and operator of Rustic Barns, based in Hollidaysburg, PA. He specializes in building custom sheds and other outbuildings, providing a high-quality alternative to prefabricated sheds and buildings. He has owned the business since 1985.

Entrepreneur shares tips for success with business students

A successful entrepreneur visited Penn State DuBois business students recently to share some of his insight on what it takes to run a successful business. Peter Varischetti is president of Varischetti Holdings, a family owned organization based in Brockway, Pennsylvania, that oversees a number of companies spanning several industries.

Carns, Neal named THON dancers for Penn State DuBois

Steve Carns, of Clearfield, and Braden Neal, of Punxsutawney, have been chosen to represent Penn State DuBois at THON 2016 as the campus' official THON dancers. The honor will place the pair in the middle of the action as they attempt to dance and stay on their feet for 46 consecutive hours to support the battle against childhood cancer. THON 2016 will take place Feb. 19-21 at the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park.

Students serve communities on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

A group of 12 Penn State DuBois students participated in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day tradition on Monday, choosing to take part in the MLK Day of Service, rather than taking the day off. They were part of a group nearly 100 students strong, from seven Penn State campuses including Behrend, Beaver, Shenango, DuBois, Greater Allegheny, Fayette, and New Kensington.

Congressman Glenn Thompson visits Penn State DuBois

Congressman Glenn Thompson (R) visited Penn State DuBois on Friday as part of his Listening and Leading Tour. The tour, making 36 stops in 16 counties over a five-day period, kicks off Thompson's campaign for reelection to Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District, spanning North Central Pennsylvania. At Penn State DuBois, Thompson learned about some of the educational opportunities the campus offers the region.

Thomas to lead softball program at Penn State DuBois

A young, local talent has been selected to lead the newest athletic team to be added to the Penn State DuBois athletics program. Meagan Thomas, a DuBois Central Catholic graduate, will be the head softball coach. The team is set to start play in September 2016. Thomas will start her work in January to recruit prospective student-athletes to campus and build relationships with the current students at Penn State DuBois who may want to play on the team.
