Question: Where is the CUE located?
Answer: It is located in the Swift Building in Room 253. All tutoring sessions will begin in the CUE. Most will continue in the CUE; however, a few will be moved to other locations depending on the size of the group and the topic to be addressed.
Question: Do I need an appointment?
Answer: No. Students are welcome to walk-in to the CUE at any time for assistance; however, it is recommended that appointments be made ahead of time to ensure that a tutor is available in the subject area, especially during high volume times such as midterms or finals. Appointments can be made by going to the CUE, emailing [email protected] or calling 814-375-4795.
Question: Does the service cost me anything?
Answer: No. The service is free of charge and is open to all students currently enrolled in courses at Penn State DuBois. Both full-time and part-time students are welcome.
Question: What do I do when I get there?
Answer: The first step is to sign in to the CUE by signing in on a paper located at the front desk. Once you have completed the sign-in, a tutor will meet with you.
Question: Do I have to use tutoring all semester?
Answer: No, students can visit the CUE as much or as little as they need to. Some students need only one visit to clarify a subject while others might benefit from visiting the CUE on a weekly basis.
Question: What hours are tutors available?
Answer: The CUE is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Question: Will I always be tutored one on one?
Answer: Tutors may work with small groups of students at a time; however, they will never work with others unless they first obtain your permission to do so. Most sessions are set up on a one-on-one basis.
Question: What should I bring to the tutoring session?
Answer: Bring your textbook, your notebook, your assignment, your syllabus for the course, and a pen/pencil. Be prepared to ask questions and describe which information you are confused about.
Question: I am doing well in my class. Can tutoring help me do even better?
Answer: Yes. The CUE is a learning enhancement center designed to assist both students who are doing poorly in a class and students who are doing well. Students who are doing well may find that they would benefit to fine-tune concepts or practice new concepts.
Question: When should I seek tutoring?
Answer: Tutoring should be sought AS SOON AS one is experiencing difficulty with a course. Do not fall behind. Students who wait until the last minute for tutoring will likely gain less from the experience because tutoring is a process that enhances a student’s understanding over time. It is not a quick fix.
Question: Do I need to be tutored the entire time I am in the CUE?
Answer: No. Students may visit the CUE to use the resources located there or to use the computers available. In addition, some students visit the CUE to study so that they can ask an available tutor a question if and when they run across a concept they do not understand.
