DuBOIS, Pa. — Penn State DuBois and Penn State Altoona will each offer in-person sessions of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Class for General Industry this August, providing essential training for workers across a wide range of industries. Registration is now open for both locations.
OSHA recommends this 10-hour training for employees in industries such as manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, and other general sectors, in order to maintain safe and healthy work environments. The program provides entry-level workers with important information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to identify, avoid, abate and prevent workplace hazards. The course addresses a variety of general industry safety and health issues that workers may encounter on the job.
Trainings are taught by an OSHA-certified instructor and include topics such as introduction to OSHA, fall protection, exit routes and fire prevention and protection, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, hazard communications, materials handling, machine guarding, lockout/tagout procedures and hearing protection.
The session at Penn State Altoona is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 18 and 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The DuBois campus will host its session on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 27 and 28, also from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a one-hour lunch break each day, during which participants are free to explore local dining options on their own.
The cost to attend is $295. Students who successfully complete the course will receive their OSHA 10 card in the mail.
John Brennan, director of the Penn State Altoona/DuBois Workforce Development Collaborative, emphasized the value of the training in today’s workforce.
“Workplace safety is a top priority for any organization,” Brennan said. “This course provides workers with the tools and knowledge they need to identify hazards and prevent accidents before they happen. It’s a strong investment in both employee well-being and organizational performance.”
Payment is due upon registration. Cancellations may be requested up to the course start date and are subject to a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given for withdrawals requested after the course has begun. If the University cancels a course, a full refund will be issued.
