Penn State DuBois women's basketball team earns road win

The Penn State DuBois Women’s Basketball team picked up their second road victory in a row as they beat Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) (7-6) by the score of 70-53 Thursday night. DuBois improves to (4-7) on the season with the win. DuBois held a 2-point lead at the end of the first quarter 18-16. But they got some breathing room, thanks to a strong defensive effort, by holding WCCC to just 2 points in the second quarter and building a 30-18 halftime lead. DuBois went on to control the second half by outscoring WCCC 40-35 to pick up the win. "We started playing well as a team right before the semester break and have picked right up where we left off in December. Westmoreland is a really good team so it makes this win even more impressive," stated Coach Pat Lewis. "The young ladies are working hard at practice and that’s paying off right now." Ashley Brown (Otto Eldred) with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Grace Earle (Cowanesque Valley) with 11 points and 10 rebounds both posted double-doubles. Also in double figures were Melody Young (Otto Eldred) 14 points and Latascia Shadle (Galeton) 12 points. Kaelyn Gruver (Redbank Valley) hauled in 7 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. The women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at home against conference rival Penn State Greater Allegheny. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
