Mark Freemer '81

Mark A. Freemer is a 1981 graduate of Penn State University, who attended the DuBois campus for two years before completing his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting at University Park.  In 1988, he became a certified public accountant (CPA).

Currently, Freemer is the Chief Financial Officer at Varischetti Holdings, LP in Brockway PA - a family-owned organization with businesses operating in powdered metal manufacturing, gas field, electrical, and management and consulting services.  The family also has ownership in various real estate and real estate entities and a minority ownership interest in the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He has been with the company for the past ten years. 

As Chief Financial Officer, Freemer is responsible for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial activities of the various Varischetti companies.  He also provides guidance on estate planning, asset protection, tax planning and compliance and gift tax planning. 

Freemer is actively involved in the community and has served as the Co-chairperson for the Penn State DuBois Campus Fundraising Campaign, , a Board Member of the Emclaire Financial Corporation/Farmers National Bank, a Chairperson and Board Member of DuBois Regional Medical Center, a Treasurer and Board Member of DuBois Area Catholic Schools, a Treasurer and Board Member of the DuBois Area United Way, a Treasurer and Board Member of Goodwill Industries of North Central PA, Inc., and a Member of the DuBois Area Jaycees.  Currently, he serves as a Board Member of the DuBois Education Foundation and Symmco, Inc.

Freemer resides in DuBois, PA, with his wife Betty, and has shown support for Penn State DuBois by creating a scholarship fund in memory of her son, Jordan Andrulonis.  He is also an avid Penn State sports fan and season ticket holder for both basketball and football.  As a Penn State football season ticket holder since 1986, he is known to never miss a home game or an opportunity to host a tailgate.
