More than 230 students from across the country and around the globe officially became part of the Penn State DuBois community Aug. 20 at Convocation ceremonies and New Student Orientation on campus.
Penn State DuBois Head Baseball Coach Tom Calliari has put in some extra innings of his own in recent months, working overtime to recruit the greatest talent he can find to fill up his team roster. The team will play a full schedule beginning in the spring of 2016, but will first offer a preview of things to come with a three game "Fall Ball" season starting on Sept. 12, as DuBois squares off against Westmorland Community College at Showers Field.
A group of Penn State DuBois students majoring in education, Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), and business, provided hands-on learning opportunities for area elementary school students on Monday. Nearly 100 first grade students from Brockway Elementary School visited the campus to participate in the workshops.
Honors students in the Penn State DuBois Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program have contributed funds to help a special area boy purchase the bicycle of his dreams. The students donated $408 on Thursday to 16-year-old Brandon Druzak of DuBois, Pennsylvania, and his father, Steven. Brandon lives with cerebral palsy, and requires a specially built bicycle in order to ride. The bike costs around $1,000 total.
A Penn State DuBois alumna who dedicated her career to educating others shared her story as well as advice for new graduates at Penn State DuBois commencement ceremonies May 9.
LuAnn Demi, senior instructor of the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program at Penn State DuBois, has received the University-wide 2015 George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is named after Penn State’s seventh president and honors excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
Robert Loeb, associate professor of biology and forestry at Penn State DuBois was awarded with the 2015 John Romano Faculty/Staff Diversity Recognition Award at an awards ceremony at University Park recently.
The A.J. and Sigismunda Palumbo Charitable Trust has donated an additional $40,000 to a scholarship fund that will help students attain an education at Penn State DuBois. The fund, The Palumbo Scholarship at Penn State DuBois, was established in 2008 with a $25,000 gift from the Palumbo Charitable Trust. To date, the trust has gifted $270,000 to campus scholarship funds.
Penn State DuBois students who traveled to New Orleans on an alternative Spring Break service trip have completed a food drive benefiting the DuBois Ministerial Food Pantry. The drive netted 413 packaged, nonperishable food items, plus $362.
