On Saturday, Oct. 11, the Penn State DuBois cross country runners competed at the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Championships on the official course of the Penn State Nittany Lions at University Park. Several of the runners were no strangers to the course, having run a similar competition in high school for the annual Harry Groves’ Spike Shoe Invitational. Competing for the conference championships along with Penn State DuBois were Penn State Worthington Scranton, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Penn State Lehigh Valley, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Schuylkill, Penn State Fayette and Penn State Brandywine.
The Penn State DuBois golf team completed another extremely successful season by taking third place in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Championships as well as a 16th place finish in the USCAA National Tournament on Oct. 13 and 14.
A total of five area schools have received bids to compete in the BEST Robotics Regionals in North Dakota following the preliminary competition at Penn State DuBois on Oct. 24, and 25. Those schools invited to participate in the contest slated for Dec. 4 to 6 at North Dakota State University are DuBois Area High School, DuBois Central Catholic, Brockway Area High School, Overbrook High School of Philadelphia and Ridgway Area High School.
Runners from Penn State DuBois competed at the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country National Championships on Nov. 7. Representing the DuBois Nittany Lions were Juliann Boddorf, Tamera Anthony, Heidi Rodgers, Matthew Burke and Charles Miller.
Three accomplished member of the Penn State DuBois community were honored at the annual Penn State DuBois Alumni Awards Banquet on Thursday evening (Nov. 20) at the Lakeview Lodge at Treasure Lake. All award recipients have demonstrated leadership and ingenuity in their fields, as well as steadfast support for the campus.
Recently, the Penn State DuBois campus hosted the regional preliminary round of the Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology robotics competition (BEST), giving teams of middle and high school students a chance to design and build robots.
Honors students in the Penn State DuBois Occupational Therapy Assistant Program recently presented some potentially life-saving information to area seniors. The sophomore-level honors students held a workshop focused on preventing falls as part of their honors option project.
More than 40 Penn State DuBois graduates proudly walked in fall commencement ceremonies Thursday evening in Hiller Auditorium as DuBois Instructor in Wildlife Technology Emily Thomas provided an inspiring commencement address, encouraging graduates to always chase their dreams.
Three dedicated individuals were recently honored for their 25 years of service to Penn State DuBois. Director of Enrollment Melissa Duttry, Associate Professor of English Antonio Vallone and Senior Instructor of Business Administration Laurie Breakey were all recognized during a reception held in Symmco House, the campus administrative building.
While working alongside Associate Professor of Biology and Forestry Robert Loeb, Penn State DuBois undergraduates Mary Transue and Porshe Garthwaite published an article in the renowned British journal Studies in the History of Gardens and Designed Landscapes: An International Quarterly.
